Sewing Goodies!

 Hi!

As you might know, I’ve always been big on thrifting!

So as a fellow crafter I know just how expensive craft supplies can be brand new, especially in places such as “Hobby Craft” in the UK. A pack of buttons could cost you £4! Now that to me is crazy!

So where better to look than thrift shops. Just because it’s secondhand, doesn’t mean it’s “ewww”. You can find a lot of unused brand new craft supplies, all you have to do is dig deep!

My recent score on sewing supplies!

I was looking through a basket of stuff only to find a huge stash of brand new zips and for 20p each I wasn’t going to moan haha. Thrifting for craft supplies can make a huge difference in your expenses. Instead of buying the exact same zips for around £5 I managed to get all of the above whilst saving a couple of pounds.

From an awesome stash of sewing yarn, toggles, a vintage sewing cushion to purple stars a successful trip indeed.

Sundays are for…

Car boots!

If you live in England then you know how big we are on our car boots! Its pretty much  the equivalent to maybe the American yard sale, but imagine 100 more stalls and such… Then you have yourself a car boot!

Well there always on a Sunday morning in general so me & Mr H did the daring & got up early for once… Were more night owls than morning people. I just really hate getting up early haha, yet I’m more than happy to stay up till the dead hours of the night.

Anyway I’m glad we did manage to drag our arses out of bed cause it was surely worth it:

From the prettiest of bedspreads… Looks so comfy can’t wait to use it! Christmas baskets, decorations ahh just so much neat stuff! Really stoked I found this box of buttons, complete bargain and in a vintage tin…Love!

I originally went this morning with the intention of finding stuff that I could incorporate into my craft fair this October, so it’s only natural that I picked up these cute light up Santa/jester hats.

Next up Mr H’s favourite score of the day, a Frothie maker that makes really awesome hot and cold drinks. Can you believe that this little thing manage to blow our electrics…Damn haha.

I finally found some furniture I can re-vamp and use in my craft fair. Can’t wait to get started on it! (The Chinese chest is Mr H’s.) I also found some of the cutest hair clips, so I just had to have them.

Some more cheap craft supplies is always a win. Of course I had to save the best till last!

Hello Kitty Japanese bundle! All brand new! I couldn’t believe my luck when I saw this sitting on an old ladies stall. I immediately grabbed it all! definitely my favourite and best score of the day! It just shows that you never know what you could find… & well obviously it was meant to be!

Have an awesome Sunday,

A Chic Score!

Hey!

I hit cute heaven on my latest thrifting session; I simply looking for vintage Christmas bits I can use to decorate my craft table for the fair. But instead I managed to walk into a world full of pink and kawaiiness.

So here’s what I scored:

The cutest pink duffel bag, some ober kawaii purple polka dot hangers, frog soap on a rope! Omgosh I was super amazed to find this frog and just by the off-chance. Obviously its brand new, as buying second hand soap is a big no-no haha.

But there normally really expensive so for a couple of quid I jumped on it haha.

I did manage to find some craft supplies though. The prettiest vintage lace with a hint of mint green and peach. It’s so pretty, I’ve already started using it in some of my Jellies. (Stay tune for the release of those. ^___<) As well as a bunch of used stamps. I’m still not sure what to use them for, I was thinking collage?

So a tad girly this week but still I’m not complaining!

A great thrift trip!

Hi all!

Just quickly popping in with some goodies I thrifted fresh off the shelfs today. All for a £5,  great thrifting trip indeed!

I finally found a cute apron! I’ve wanted a retro apron for so long and to actually find a vintage piece from the 1970′s and still in perfect condition, I was a happy bunny. Can’t wait to bake in it as I’m forever getting flour all down myself.

I also found this cute folksy dove tray. I love miniature trays I’ve always found them perfect whilst crafting…They just help me maintain my beads and stuff otherwise my kitty or the floor would consume them haha!

These two wooden black kitties are just so cute! I don’t currently have  a use or purpose for them except that I love cats & my kitty Hewiee is black? Ahh I don’t know I’ve just always found black cats to be that extra bit mischievous and charming. I might turn them into book ends, who knows…

Also I found a really sweet blue flower resin picture frame. I kinda collect quirky small picture frames. I’ll show you my collection soon. I just love the miss match style it just creates that homely atmosphere. I also found a cute Victorian print pill pot (But I won’t be using it for pills, just loose ends probably.) and a cat magnet. I love magnets, my fridge can’t get enough of them haha. Or maybe it’s just me. >….<

Finally a new paint palette. Which is great for me as my current ones are well a state: From years of built up paint. It’s good to finally have a nice clean one, although It shan’t stay like that for long haha.’

So thats my latest bargain finds for this weeks Thrift Thursday.

Crochet just being one of my many favourites of course! They just hold that rustic homely charm & for £3.99 a piece I wasn’t going to complain.

I just don’t understand how people can throw away such amazing craft! We’ll It’s good for me, but still! If any one of you can crochet then you already have my respect there!

So these beauties are now currently replacing the boring pillows my sofa came with… Making it look,  a hell of a lot more comfy and of course a better place to relax.

Also there are some “new” vintage items in my Etsy store so be sure to check that out. But just incase here are some of my favourites:

It’s the little finds…

Good afternoon!

Thrifting can be a really rewarding experience, some times you hit the jackpot, or those times that you come out empty handed. But then again there can be those in-between times where you find a couple of irresistible things such as:

A new hand knitted blanket, (Yep my kitty has currently stolen this one off me too!) some craft supplies and a few trinkets. As you can tell, I freaking love baskets! Any size, colour whatever…There just so useful, don’t you find?

I’ll be back tomorrow, I’ve got tons of planning and shopping to do, as it’s my dads birthday this Saturday…As well as Farnham Carnival woo!

Brush with style…

I recently came across one of the best thrift ever a couple of days ago (In my opinion.) I’ve wanted these for ages, my Nan did have some but my sister beat me to them…Damn it!

But I’m finally happy to own my own set and in mint condition, score!

That’s right, vintage brushes…I don’t know why I love them so, they just look so elegant and remind me of fairy tales such as Rapunzel.

Rapunzel painting by: RickLaMesa.

You can just imagine any fairytale princess (Preferably from Brothers Grimm.) brushing their hair with these brushes. So I couldn’t help myself I just had to play about with them:

Haha, wouldn’t you?

Vintage.

 Hey!

For this weeks feature I decided to look into the terms “Vintage & Retro.”

Vintage has really hit the limelight since early 2010 towards 2011. But how do you know that what you’re buying is actually vintage?

You can go into any high street shop and I guarantee you that they have a “Vintage” range.

But the thing is, we just buy the look. Buying real vintage is a sure thing to set you back a couple of pretty pennies right?

So I thought I would share some of my recent finds & look into the background of these clichés.

Heres a vintage shirt I recently purchased. This shirt is from the 1970′s which defines the word vintage. If you went into say…Topshop you could get a replica shirt that looks something like mine for about £30 maybe?

But just because it looks the part doesn’t make it vintage. My shirt cost me £6. So big difference there in price.

To discover vintage stuff, you must have a lot of patience. A good place to look is your local thrift stores. Your never guaranteed to find a true vintage piece, but you have a much better chance at obtaining a true piece of vintage then going to look on the high streets.

The word vintage tends to be thrown around to easily these days. Don’t get me wrong majority of thrift stores contain a lot of useless unwanted clutter. But don’t be put off. As you might get lucky. Most thrift stores in the UK tend to sort out the real vintage pieces from the rest. Making it easier for us to browse. But be careful as the word vintage tends to hold a mean price tag. So just get stuck in really. I bet your be surprised at what you find.

I came across this today for Mr H. His a Coke Cola fiend! He never stops drinking it, so I couldn’t resist!

Metal signs with vintage looking graphics tend to come under the category of “retro.”

Retro is just a style & appearance of the product itself. Majority of retro products tend to be mass-produced at some point of its life. So don’t get vintage & retro mixed up. As there not really the same thing.

Example:                                             “Wow that plates so retro!”

                  “Must be vintage or something.”

“No the markings on the back say 2011.”

So remember to always do a double take when you suspect something being truly vintage.

As you can see there’s nothing wrong with vintage replicas as I love them myself. But just remember to question yourself when your purchasing a replica that you do know it’s not a true vintage piece. As miss branding and product identity is always questionable these days.

Good luck & happy hunting!

Bongos..?

For this weeks edition I came across a very unlikely candidate. It’s something you really don’t expect to find unless of course your purposely going out shopping for them:

I asked the lady at the counter about them & they were an amazing price of £10 for two!

Thats right two for £10. When normally they retail for about £50 each, or something like that. There even handmade! Carved out of a tree trunk.

Now I bet some of you are wondering “Thats great but why with the bongo’s?”

Well Mr H plays the guitar, bass and banjo and I’ve played the drum kit for 8 years: So we thought we could get our funk on haha.

“But bongos is a different percussion instrument it’s nothing like a drum kit.”

I know that’s true but then again why not?

It’s like playing the guitar and thinking you can automatically play the Sitar. Well you can’t…It’s hard but then again so worth it!

I would like to make a quick note to: WordPress server is being dodgy today so I apologise if my site is being a bit funny.

I’ll be back over the weekend; I’m off to do the photo shoot for the opening of my Esty store which opens on the 28th this month!

Super excited!

Stay tuned…

Wool & Fake Fur Galore!

 Hi!

Todays thrift trip was a sure success. I was like a wool magnet today; I kept bumping into so much knitting supplies…I think it was a hint somehow to start knitting again.

So with wool on the brain, it was only natural that I found these treasures:

Found amongst a ton of plastic bags, for some reason…I just love the colours. Perfect for Autumn.

I love this! As I’m always going through mountains of notebooks; this is a sleeve that fits around any standard size one . Great for jazzing up notebooks like this.

The colour clash as well as texture on this notebook is awesome! So vivid… Ideal for “on the go” as I always tend to find a lot of potential clients, out & about. (Theres nothing worse than not having paper when that happens: It’s just like “Damn it!)

So a variety of materials used in different ways. That I think hold a charm to them, as well as being super cute!

Have a good evening.
