International Friends!

Hey all!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far…

Since starting Fluffyghost one of my all time favourite things I have enjoyed the most via this website is the connections I have made with people who share the same passion as me for kawaii around the world.

It helps open your eyes to culture, friendship and of course more kawaii that you might not have been able to locate or have known.

I’ve been lucky to share swapping experiences with these lovely ladies and be included in the care package network (as I like to think of it).  You just can’t beat coming home to a super cute parcel when you’ve had a rather crappy day, as it really goes to show that someone on the other side of the world really does give a damn about your well-being… and that feeling just cannot be beaten!

So here is a what I was blessed to receive this year for Christmas from the most awesome ladies ever:

I am truly grateful to have such awesome international friends. Getting to know you all, exchanging parcels and just the kawaii community in general always brightens up my day.
I hope to one day meet you all in the flesh.

I would just like to add also that there are a few more parcels that should have been included in this post but I just can’t seem to locate the photos on my computer. But you lovely ladies know who you are and how thankful to your friendship I am.

Well thats enough of me being gushy on the internet for one day haha!
Im off to see Les Mis in the cinema.

Take care,

Gloomy Bear UFO Catchers.

Hey hey,

Japan has the most kawaii UFO catchers. (claw/grab machines to me and you!)

I especially can not resist a Gloomy Bear one. I want them all:

Kawaii!!(o^__^o)

I was lucky to be sent some Gloomy bear plush claw accessories from an awesome swap. You can only win them from the UFO catchers apparently so I was thrilled with them. One day though, I shall win my own…In Japan of course!

Take care,

Make Your Own Korilakkuma Curry!

Hey all!

So these last few nights I’ve been getting into YouTube tutorials when I stumbled across the cutest channel ever: The Kawaii Kakkoii Sugoi Show!

She currently has two of the most cutest food D.I.Y’s on her feed that I think everyone should try at least once.

So here’s how to make your own Korilakkuma curry: (It states Rilakkuma but as its white I thought Korilakkuma was much more fitting.)

So adorable & neatly presented…The instructions are very easy to follow and I love the pace of the whole video, which I personally think would make this experience much more enjoyable. (Theres nothing worse than not being able to keep up with the details given & just creating a giant mess…Very frustrating!) Plus she has the cutest home ware ever that just makes this D.I.Y irresistible!

If any one makes this D.I.Y then please email me at: fluffyghost@hotmail.co.uk

I would love to share your creations. Im definitely going to try this one, as soon as I get some curry mix!

Take care,

Sanrio Store Heaven!

Hey all!

It’s been a busy couple of weeks…Summer is finally coming to an end and my favourite seasons are approaching. I can not wait!

Anyway last weekend me my partner Mr H & our friend took a trip to Germany for the day. (It really was a long day trip.) Me and my partner had never been on a plane before so it was great to finally lose my plane virginity at the age of 20!

It wasn’t that scary, I would like to blame Hollywood for making me think so…No snakes either.

So we went to a place called Wunderland its the worlds biggest Hornby exhibit what was outstanding! The detail was crazy.

But the reason why I’m posting about this today is that I went to my first ever Sanrio store! Sanrio merchandise is sold pretty much everywhere these days if you keep an eye open for it. I’ve been collecting Hello Kitty for way over a decade now…So finally being able to visit the home of Sanrio was an utter dream come true. (There sadly isn’t any Sanrio stores here in the UK, which is very weird considering Hello Kitty was mean’t to have been born in “London.”)

Don’t get me wrong I was knackered looked a bit of a mess but it was so worth it!

(The sunglasses were still on to hide my tired looking eyes, I had been up since 3 in the morning and running on about 3 hours sleep all day haha. No regrets!)

I almost had a heart attack in the door way I swear! Boy I’ve never been quite at home as I was here. Mr H was a star and took all the in store photos as I was let loose to do my bidding. Muahahah! >:D Was a nice surprise.

So of course you might be wondering what my haul was?

Well wollah:

I think I did quite well considering I couldn’t buy too much or any larger items as we didn’t have a suitcase. Mr H was awesome and carried the Tuxedo Sam bag through customs. It was so cute!!

Lots of goodies for me and of course I had to pick up some gifts for some dear friends. Gotta share the happiness right!

Everything at the front (The pouches and mini notebooks.) were free gifts which was very delightful. I was over the moon to have been given a Jewel Pet pouch I adore Ruby. I did want to buy some Jewel Pet merchandise but was a bit to expensive for my budget. Quite a few people have asked me about the prices and I must say a lot of it was very reasonable. The was of course some extremely expensive stuff amongst everything, but isn’t there everywhere?

The most expensive purchase I made that day was the Tuxedo Sam bag which was only 17.90 Euros so not bad at all considering I was in the best place on earth…EVER!!

So there we have it my first ever trip to a Sanrio Store. I cannot wait to hunt down another!

Cakes With Faces Interview.

Hi all!

Today FluffyGhost is super lucky to be hosting an awesome interview with Amy Crabtree creator & designer of Cakes With Faces.

(Amy Crabtree from Cakes With Faces at the Manchester MCM Expo.)

Amy is a talented up and coming illustrator who designs some of the kawaiiest illustrations on T-shirts and prints. Like moi she shares an undying passion for cute food with faces so how could I not want to interview her! It would be madness I say…Madness!!

1.When did you first discover your love for kawaii and Japanese culture?

Originally from when I started watching anime…Then the more I discovered about Japanese culture, the more I liked – from the Fruits fashion books and Kera magazine, to crazy vending machines, j-pop, sushi and all the flavour’s of Kitkats they have! I went to Tokyo on holiday two years ago and can’t wait to go back. It was so great to visit Harajuku, Akihabara, Shinjuku and all the amazing places I’d heard about. One of the things I liked most was how respectful people are to each other, and how well you’re treated in shops and restaurants, but you’re not allowed to tip!

2. What a lit your passion for “food with faces”?

Everything’s cuter when it has a face, and I guess I just think about food too much! Creating characters is more fun than just drawing still life objects.

(Illustrations courtesy of Cakes With Faces.)

3. Does your artwork reflect your personal style/home décor? (Are you as much of a kawaii nut in real life as your artwork portrays?)

I’d love to dress like a Harajuku girl every day, I’m not that extreme but I do like to be colourful! I’ve had my hair most colours, at the moment it’s turquoise: And I’m running out of room for my anime figures so time to put up some more shelves… My favourites are my K-On figures and a Miku Hatsune from Tokyo.

4. What essentially made you want to go into the graphics industry?

When your creative you have to let it out! I have been drawing in my current style for a while and started thinking it was shame to keep them all locked up on my PC; so I started my website, which was just a gallery at first. I’ve been wanting to have a line of t-shirts for a long time, so finally I just decided to go for it! Now I’m dreaming about blindboxes…

5. Are they any brands that have inspired you in your work?

I’m a big fan of Tokidoki I love his characters: The Cactus Friends, Donutella, Unicornos, and I’m looking forward to the Punkstar frenzies later this year. Also Lunartik (Matt JOnes), Bryan Lee O’Malley, Jon Burgerman – he did an art show with a pizza theme, how awesome is that?!

(Amy Crabtree behind her Cakes With Faces Stall at Manchester MCM Expo.)

6. What design programs do you use?

I always draw by hand first, and then use Illustrator to work it up. I love the clean look of vectors and the idea that your drawing could be billboard-size and not pixelate!

7. Any tips for aspiring designers just starting out?

A graphics tablet is essential, mine is really basic but I couldn’t do without it. And for Illustrator, learn to tame the pen tool and away you go! The Pathfinder tools are also really useful to add and subtract shapes. My best art tip is to do “Flip horizontal” or look at it in a mirror, which makes the errors really obvious; like if it’s out of proportion or the whole thing’s leaning to the right!

8. I love your Savage Pie design, what influenced you when you created this?

Savage Pie is something beyond a traditional cupcake with a face. Where does the face go on a slice of pie? That gave me the idea for the big teeth, and I think it’s always more interesting to have a bit of a story, or a hint of dark in with the cute.  If I was the cream sitting next to that pie I’d be pretty scared!

9. What product (Or products.) are you most proud of and would recommend to my readers?

As your readers are Japan-fans I’d recommend my “All the best stuff is from Japan” t-shirt:

(You can pick up this T-shirt here.)

It’s really colourful, and comes in ladies’ and guys’ sizes. I wanted to create a design with more on it than my other t-shirts, so I thought of all the things I like that are from Japan and crammed as many as I could onto it!

You might also like my “Cuter with Cat Ears” t-shirt, which glows in the dark!

(Find this kawaii T-shirt here.)

10. Is Cake With Faces doing any more events this year?

I’ll be doing MCM Expo London in October, which is going to be absolutely  huge this time, Thought Bubble in Leeds in November and my favourite event, Hyper Japan Christmas! Cons are exhausting but I love meeting everyone and seeing all the amazing cosplayers.

Its been excellent having you here, do you have any other designs/ideas in the pipeline currently?

“I’d like to have a go at making plushies, and have an idea for a small comic-style book later that will hopefully be ready later this year. I quite like the idea of a colour-in t-shirt that comes with fabric crayons – what do you think?”

Plushes always go down a storm in my eye’s especially if there kawaii!

As for the T-shirt I think that sounds like great fun and definitely would give you an original edge amongst your products!

Is there anything you would like to add or share?

“Thanks for featuring me on Fluffy Ghost!

I’m always doing new drawings so keep an eye on my Facebook or Twitter @cakeswithfaces. I promise never to make boring posts about what I’m having for dinner. (Unless it’s sushi…)”

There we have it folks an amazing interview from the ever awesome Amy Crabtree. Be sure to stop by her website here or even better go visit her at some of her events!

Thank you so much for taking your time to share your experience’s and adorable illustrations here Amy. FluffyGhost wishes you all the luck in the world for your future products and voyages. We hope to all see you soon.

Take care all!

Birthday Goodness!

Hey all!

On Saturday I turned 20, no longer a teenager! Gosh…

Doesn’t feel any different though I must admit.

I had a really awesome lazy day. Going out to eat, playing my games, having my partner be my butler for a day haaha. Was pretty damn good doing nothing. As I couldn’t be bothered to have the pressure to have to do something. Plus this is the 4th year it has rained on my birthday! This being the first it hasn’t mattered!

Soo yay!

*Be warned this post is going to be very photo heavy!*

I was truly spoilt! I want to thank family and friends for making my day so special and for all of you’re stunning gifts you gave me & for those to come also!

It’s days like this when you can’t help but know your loved and by whom.

Wouldn’t trade that serenity for all the money in the world.

Well there we have it! I’m getting old!! :O

Haha, well take care see you all soon!

The Most Adorable Swaps! Part 2.

Hey!

So onward with part 2 of this post.

I was super excited to be swapping with Carmie from Flickr again as she knows my kawaii taste very well.

So heres the parcel:

I love it when people draw and decorate there parcels. It just brightens up your post you know? She also drew the cutest bunny girl on the back, but I didn’t take a photo.

It was like a kawaii anime paradise when I opened up this parcel.  From Hamtaro, PreCure, Ruby from Jewel Pets, Totoro & Pikachu! I am a very happy bunny!

Aswell as Hello Kitty, Rilakkuma, Sugarbunnies and tons of kawaii knick knacks. I really love Carmies accessories too. She picks out the cutest of jewellery as well as making some. I have been truly spoilt! She also got the Lolita Hello Kitty, Ruby drawstring bag & tumbler especially made for me!

There is not a single item I do not like or am not to fond of. You know you have an awesome swapper when this is the case!

I really feel so blessed to be doing swaps like these. I remember when I first started out, seeing swaps like these was like a dream come true. And it still feels like that these days to. I would spend hours searching the net and staring at photos on Flickr, wishing that I could somehow participate! I must admit it takes some time to build up your reputation and you have to sieve out all the flakers. I have been flaked a total of 3 times and the feeling sucks so much! But once you meet some great people world-wide who wants to trade and respects the process of swaps it becomes very rewarding! It’s amazing that from a simple exchange you can brighten up someones day and make them happy.

So there we have it! Another successful swap. Stay tune for the photos of the swaps I’ve sent. I never upload any before the person gets it. Would hate to be a spoiler.

Take care!

The Most Adorable Swaps! Part 1.

Hey!

The Summer is always a busy season, so when things get a little “ahhh.” its great to get those pick me ups. Kawaii of course!

So here are two amazing swaps I’ve recently got through the post.

This incredible swap is from Michelle from Flickr. I’ve never had so many of my wish list items come true at once. I was ecstatic!

The Hello Kitty ghost line is one of my favourite lines by Hello Kitty. But so hard to track any down here in the UK. To get so much from the TuxedoSam goodies, some of my favourite anime plush, kawaii cats and to top it all off some amazing handmade stamps. I was made!

This is the second half of Michelle’s swap to me. (It started out as one giant swap but got cut into two sendable swaps haha.) Craft heaven! So many stunning moulds and clay. I’ve not been able to put it down! The Rilakkuma moulds are being used as ice cube trays: Im going to make some chocolates with them too. I also love the Sugar Bunny bag and Hello Kitty socks.

Everything was just perfect and very me.

I can’t currently show what I’ve sent her as she doesn’t know yet and I didn’t take a full photo of everything to date together.

So i’ll ask if I can borrow her photo when she takes it.

Be back tomorrow with part two of this post!

Take care,

FluffyGhost on Instagram!

Hey all.

Lately I’ve been addicted to the Instagram app… As I tend to take pictures of my everyday kawaii life compared to specialising on a handful of subjects per post as I do here. It’s just a lot more spontaneous and I love it! So I thought I should start uploading from time to time my Instagram photos so you can see more of FluffyGhost behind the scenes haha.

So here’s some photos from the last month:

As you can see I really am that much of a kawaii nut lol! I’ve been taking photos of my personal collection, everyday life, new purchases and my kitty when his being a ober cutie. I just love kawaii photography there’s just something about it where I can stare my day away at it.

So if you want to follow me on Instagram and see all the rest of my feed. (Yes there are tons more photos for you to get your eyeballs into! (o^____^o)

Then follow: @fluffyghost

Come & say hi too! I love chatting away with you guys!

Holy Cow!

Hey everyone!

Just quickly popping in today with another swap post.

Recently I was lucky to be able to swap with the ever awesome Quinn from Flickr.

I was so excited to get her parcel through I mean look at it:

A fellow deco tape junkie! It just looks so adorable! Instant love at first sight. I shall definitely reuse this box, just far to cute not too.

Heres the surprise swap she sent me:

From Hello Kitty, Tuxedo Sam, Jewel Pets, Little Star Twins, Sugarbunnies, Hannari tofu, Japanese candy, deco tape, cute home wares, ghost stickers & sticker sacks! (I adore kawaii ghosts, especially the Hello Kitty Halloween range its in my ultimate wish list!)

My mouth hit the floor when I saw what she sent me. Everything is bang on perfect for me! This swap seriously has made my month in kawaii! She really has spoilt me rotten, I adore each and every item. You can tell a lot of thought & love has gone into this parcel. I really am speechless. This is the definition of a legendary kawaii swap indeed. I can only hope that mine will live up to this.

So I’m beyond a happy chappy right now haha. This swap was so fun doing as neither of us had a clue what one another was sending each other. All we had was a profile likes & dislikes and going on a whim. She really got me down to a “T”!

Well gotta dash now, I shall be back tomorrow to post.

Take care,
