Happy 2013!

Happy 2013 everyone! May you have a very prosperous new year in all your future adventures.

I’ve been thinking about what I would like to do for some of my new year resolutions… One of them being that I would like to get back into being a serious blogger once more. As I have settled into my new life style I believe that I can handle running Fluffyghost with ease. But this time more for pleasure and hobby then a chore.

That means lots of personal posts again, as I have tons of photos just waiting to be upload here!

So Christmas was fantastic, lots of friends, family and of course kawaii. Heres a sneak peak of a few of my decorations and lovely gifts I was lucky to receive:

San-x, Sanrio, anime, games, Lolita and a traditional Japanese leather school bag make me a very happy bunny indeed! I’ve been eyeing up that bag like a perv for  such a long time too & now it is mine muahahaha! >:D

It was  also great to be able to enjoy all the festive activities on the run up to Christmas too with the people I love.

Anway hoo’s Happy New Year everyone! Lets welcome it all in together.

Cakes With Faces Interview.

Hi all!

Today FluffyGhost is super lucky to be hosting an awesome interview with Amy Crabtree creator & designer of Cakes With Faces.

(Amy Crabtree from Cakes With Faces at the Manchester MCM Expo.)

Amy is a talented up and coming illustrator who designs some of the kawaiiest illustrations on T-shirts and prints. Like moi she shares an undying passion for cute food with faces so how could I not want to interview her! It would be madness I say…Madness!!

1.When did you first discover your love for kawaii and Japanese culture?

Originally from when I started watching anime…Then the more I discovered about Japanese culture, the more I liked – from the Fruits fashion books and Kera magazine, to crazy vending machines, j-pop, sushi and all the flavour’s of Kitkats they have! I went to Tokyo on holiday two years ago and can’t wait to go back. It was so great to visit Harajuku, Akihabara, Shinjuku and all the amazing places I’d heard about. One of the things I liked most was how respectful people are to each other, and how well you’re treated in shops and restaurants, but you’re not allowed to tip!

2. What a lit your passion for “food with faces”?

Everything’s cuter when it has a face, and I guess I just think about food too much! Creating characters is more fun than just drawing still life objects.

(Illustrations courtesy of Cakes With Faces.)

3. Does your artwork reflect your personal style/home décor? (Are you as much of a kawaii nut in real life as your artwork portrays?)

I’d love to dress like a Harajuku girl every day, I’m not that extreme but I do like to be colourful! I’ve had my hair most colours, at the moment it’s turquoise: And I’m running out of room for my anime figures so time to put up some more shelves… My favourites are my K-On figures and a Miku Hatsune from Tokyo.

4. What essentially made you want to go into the graphics industry?

When your creative you have to let it out! I have been drawing in my current style for a while and started thinking it was shame to keep them all locked up on my PC; so I started my website, which was just a gallery at first. I’ve been wanting to have a line of t-shirts for a long time, so finally I just decided to go for it! Now I’m dreaming about blindboxes…

5. Are they any brands that have inspired you in your work?

I’m a big fan of Tokidoki I love his characters: The Cactus Friends, Donutella, Unicornos, and I’m looking forward to the Punkstar frenzies later this year. Also Lunartik (Matt JOnes), Bryan Lee O’Malley, Jon Burgerman – he did an art show with a pizza theme, how awesome is that?!

(Amy Crabtree behind her Cakes With Faces Stall at Manchester MCM Expo.)

6. What design programs do you use?

I always draw by hand first, and then use Illustrator to work it up. I love the clean look of vectors and the idea that your drawing could be billboard-size and not pixelate!

7. Any tips for aspiring designers just starting out?

A graphics tablet is essential, mine is really basic but I couldn’t do without it. And for Illustrator, learn to tame the pen tool and away you go! The Pathfinder tools are also really useful to add and subtract shapes. My best art tip is to do “Flip horizontal” or look at it in a mirror, which makes the errors really obvious; like if it’s out of proportion or the whole thing’s leaning to the right!

8. I love your Savage Pie design, what influenced you when you created this?

Savage Pie is something beyond a traditional cupcake with a face. Where does the face go on a slice of pie? That gave me the idea for the big teeth, and I think it’s always more interesting to have a bit of a story, or a hint of dark in with the cute.  If I was the cream sitting next to that pie I’d be pretty scared!

9. What product (Or products.) are you most proud of and would recommend to my readers?

As your readers are Japan-fans I’d recommend my “All the best stuff is from Japan” t-shirt:

(You can pick up this T-shirt here.)

It’s really colourful, and comes in ladies’ and guys’ sizes. I wanted to create a design with more on it than my other t-shirts, so I thought of all the things I like that are from Japan and crammed as many as I could onto it!

You might also like my “Cuter with Cat Ears” t-shirt, which glows in the dark!

(Find this kawaii T-shirt here.)

10. Is Cake With Faces doing any more events this year?

I’ll be doing MCM Expo London in October, which is going to be absolutely  huge this time, Thought Bubble in Leeds in November and my favourite event, Hyper Japan Christmas! Cons are exhausting but I love meeting everyone and seeing all the amazing cosplayers.

Its been excellent having you here, do you have any other designs/ideas in the pipeline currently?

“I’d like to have a go at making plushies, and have an idea for a small comic-style book later that will hopefully be ready later this year. I quite like the idea of a colour-in t-shirt that comes with fabric crayons – what do you think?”

Plushes always go down a storm in my eye’s especially if there kawaii!

As for the T-shirt I think that sounds like great fun and definitely would give you an original edge amongst your products!

Is there anything you would like to add or share?

“Thanks for featuring me on Fluffy Ghost!

I’m always doing new drawings so keep an eye on my Facebook or Twitter @cakeswithfaces. I promise never to make boring posts about what I’m having for dinner. (Unless it’s sushi…)”

There we have it folks an amazing interview from the ever awesome Amy Crabtree. Be sure to stop by her website here or even better go visit her at some of her events!

Thank you so much for taking your time to share your experience’s and adorable illustrations here Amy. FluffyGhost wishes you all the luck in the world for your future products and voyages. We hope to all see you soon.

Take care all!

The Most Adorable Swaps! Part 2.

Hey!

So onward with part 2 of this post.

I was super excited to be swapping with Carmie from Flickr again as she knows my kawaii taste very well.

So heres the parcel:

I love it when people draw and decorate there parcels. It just brightens up your post you know? She also drew the cutest bunny girl on the back, but I didn’t take a photo.

It was like a kawaii anime paradise when I opened up this parcel.  From Hamtaro, PreCure, Ruby from Jewel Pets, Totoro & Pikachu! I am a very happy bunny!

Aswell as Hello Kitty, Rilakkuma, Sugarbunnies and tons of kawaii knick knacks. I really love Carmies accessories too. She picks out the cutest of jewellery as well as making some. I have been truly spoilt! She also got the Lolita Hello Kitty, Ruby drawstring bag & tumbler especially made for me!

There is not a single item I do not like or am not to fond of. You know you have an awesome swapper when this is the case!

I really feel so blessed to be doing swaps like these. I remember when I first started out, seeing swaps like these was like a dream come true. And it still feels like that these days to. I would spend hours searching the net and staring at photos on Flickr, wishing that I could somehow participate! I must admit it takes some time to build up your reputation and you have to sieve out all the flakers. I have been flaked a total of 3 times and the feeling sucks so much! But once you meet some great people world-wide who wants to trade and respects the process of swaps it becomes very rewarding! It’s amazing that from a simple exchange you can brighten up someones day and make them happy.

So there we have it! Another successful swap. Stay tune for the photos of the swaps I’ve sent. I never upload any before the person gets it. Would hate to be a spoiler.

Take care!

The Most Adorable Swaps! Part 1.

Hey!

The Summer is always a busy season, so when things get a little “ahhh.” its great to get those pick me ups. Kawaii of course!

So here are two amazing swaps I’ve recently got through the post.

This incredible swap is from Michelle from Flickr. I’ve never had so many of my wish list items come true at once. I was ecstatic!

The Hello Kitty ghost line is one of my favourite lines by Hello Kitty. But so hard to track any down here in the UK. To get so much from the TuxedoSam goodies, some of my favourite anime plush, kawaii cats and to top it all off some amazing handmade stamps. I was made!

This is the second half of Michelle’s swap to me. (It started out as one giant swap but got cut into two sendable swaps haha.) Craft heaven! So many stunning moulds and clay. I’ve not been able to put it down! The Rilakkuma moulds are being used as ice cube trays: Im going to make some chocolates with them too. I also love the Sugar Bunny bag and Hello Kitty socks.

Everything was just perfect and very me.

I can’t currently show what I’ve sent her as she doesn’t know yet and I didn’t take a full photo of everything to date together.

So i’ll ask if I can borrow her photo when she takes it.

Be back tomorrow with part two of this post!

Take care,

I Am Not Dead!

Hello all…

All though it may have seemed that I had died and gone off somewhere I can assure you all I am still alive!

Basically I had a seriously bad flu virus & been in bed for the last two weeks pretty much.  But I’m all better now so FluffyGhost shall commence with the kawaii!

I shall be pulling my finger out to & uploading some kawaii goodies I have in store for you all to my Etsy shop.

Anyway whilst I was ill doesn’t mean there wasn’t any kawaii! (There is always kawaii of course!)

Look what the postman brought me:

Over a month ago I placed another order from the ever awesome J List and boy I’m sure glad I did.

Japan have so many awesome ranges of our existing candy and chocolate that it makes our British range seem rather boring. Which it is! I’ve never tried hot cake flavour KitKats before until now. There really good-by the way, a lot smaller than the UK ones but with the Rilakkuma packaging who cares? Most kawaii KitKats ever!

I also got some Miku Hatsune “Hentai” underwear. Its meant for cosplay apparently but I’m just using them as normal underwear really haha. They are super cute and of course comfy. If you’re a fan of anime then your bound to have see these iconic panties everywhere (In a range of colours.) so I just had to have some!

I needed some teaspoons (Yes I actually did need some not because I fancied them, even though I did haha.) so I was able to crack two birds with one stone here.

I also re-ordered some of the chocolate pocky moulds as I swapped my current one.

Finally these are what are known as a “silly” purchases. No I didn’t need them, I just wanted them haha. The first is a giant panda biscuit looked really cute so I thought I would give it ago. Must admit although it was a little artificial still tasted better than I thought. I do love the plastic cases, I don’t have a purpose in mind for them so I’ll properly use a few of them for some future swaps or something along those lines.

I hope everyone enjoys their bank holiday weekend! (If you live in the UK!)

So I shall be back on Tuesday with tons of kawaii posts, crafts, products and more. Yes I will actually be back haha! If you can swear on kawaii then I do!

Take care,

My Kawaii World!

Hey,

Just quickly popping in with an insight into my kawaii life!

Today I wanted to share what I call my kawaii corner with you all.

So here it is:

It’s just one of my many safe havens It’s almost like a shrine I spose to me haha.

I tend to keep my smaller collectible plush here as well as some of the manga I have finished.

Although I tend to keep my larger collection stored away neatly.

My kawaii corner is on top of my chest of draws so I am forever going back & forth to this part of my bedroom.

The mirror & blue mini chest of draws I’ve had since I was small so I doubt I’ll ever get rid of those. (Even if they do seem to be the odd bits out of this kawaii equation. My favourite storage here would be my pink Rilakkuma draws as well as the tiny Hello Kitty draws I have on top of the larger blue unit. (I’ve had that for a very long time too.)

I tend to keep most of my kawaii inside of kawaii tins, boxes, cute storage etc… So  the goodies out on display are only a small part of my personal collection, I have gathered from over the years. My favourite part of this corner recently would have to be my “charm tree” well it’s a white heart but I look at it like that.

From Nyan Nyan Nyanko charms, Sanrio, Jewel Pets, San-X, Tofu Cute, to handmade. I love adding new goodies to it.

I also tend to get a lot of kawaii goodies from swaps too. So I’m always proud to display some of my favourite bits & bobs I’ve received from the ever so lovely kawaii community on Flickr.

So there you have it, a small insight into my everyday kawaii life!

If  you have any kawaii places in your home & would like to feature on FluffyGhost, then drop me an email…I would love to hear from you all!

Take care & have an awesome weekend.

From Japan With Love Literally!

Hey!

Just popping in with a quick post today…

Recently my kawaii sister Ella Kitty got back from her awesome trip to Japan…Of course I was jealous who wouldn’t be! (But in the good sense only.)

As Ella Kitty is my favourite pen pal too I expected a postcard maybe but never this:

I really am in complete awe of everything! I adore it all so much.

From Studio Ghibli goodies such as Jiji & Totoro, to Hello Kitty, (I really love the design on that compact box…Saying that though is still a huge understatement to how much I love it…) Jewel Pets and some bento goodies.

This surprise parcel really has made my week.

If you ever wanted to know what the worlds best flannel ever looked like…Well know you know haha. Couldn’t believe that it came with that adorable Totoro brooch. Boy & I a lucky girl indeed!

Thank you so much my kawaii sister you always know how to brighten up my life.

I really am in love with the post card to, just to let you know its fridge worthy:

So it found its home with in seconds. ( I keep postcards from places around the world & trios on the other side of the fridge so the Tokyo one now lives there too.)
